Being A Teen At St. John's

By Jill Hendricks

With soccer practice, choir rehearsal, football games, and countless other activities, sometimes it can be difficult to prioritize, but our youth should remember that they will always have a home at St. John's. Teens seem to have earned a bad reputation, because the news seems to overlook the good things we can do. People seem to remember the crimes rather than the acts of kindness and charity. They perceive adolescents as rebellious ad mischievous be making a generalization from a few extreme stories, and the reality is that the vast majority of us only want to make the world a better place. This is clear at St. John's. St. John's boasts a motto: "No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey you're always welcome at St. John's". Our youth are no exception. We encourage youth involvement in a variety of ways. Youth represent our church on mission trips. hold fundraisers for charity, sing in choirs, play musical instruments, acolyte, and inspire you with our interest in the church. The youth participate because they want to, not because they have to. While the youth are helping to serve the church, we are also benefiting from it. Each song we sing, candle we light, and person we reach out to provide another opportunity to learn what life is really about. These lifelong values could be brought out into the community and much father. With a sturdy foundation in communities like St. John's, we can trust that our future is in good hands.
